The Accident

Yesterday, brothers Trey and Tyler Thompson jumped in a pick-up with friend Keith Cypert, a Munday High School student, to check on a grass fire on one of their ranches. They left the church (they were gathered for a retirement celebration) and raced to the scene of the fire not knowing that they were about to become part of another scene.

As Tyler, Keith, and Trey approached an intersection just south of Rhineland, an eighteen wheeler with malfunctioning brakes crossed the highway. Unable to avoid a collision, Trey, Tyler, and Keith swerved but instead hit the fuel tank of the semi-truck. The impact pushed both vehicles off the road into a wheat field. Incredibly, Keith, the only one not injured, was able to free himself and rescue Trey from the wreckage. The driver of the semi then assisted Keith as he went back into the burning truck to save Tyler who was on fire.

Immediately after they were rescued, both the pick-up and the semi exploded setting the field on fire.

We know that Tyler, Trey, Keith, and the truck driver were spared by the gracious hand of God Almighty.

The local fire department and emergency services sped to the scene. The emergency
workers-all friends of the Thompson family-- arrived to administer medical aid and prepare them for transport by ambulance.

Meanwhile, Trey and Tyler's wives, parents(Cindy and Larry) and family members arrived on the scene. Both men were severely injured. But no one would know for sure the extent until they were taken to the hospital. Careflight was dispatched.

At Knox City they determined that Tyler had third degree burns over about 30% of his body, a badly broken leg, and other lacerations and injuries. Trey sustained a broken left arm, a fractured skull, and multiple injuries to his face. After being stabilized, both were air lifted to Lubbock's UMC.

Meanwhile, friends and family rallied together in prayer. Children were shuffled here and there and loving neighbors drove to Lubbock to support this dear family. No telling how many similar trips the Thompson's have made on the behalf of others in times like this...

The medical staff at UMC determined a plan of action for at least the near future. Tyler was admitted to the burn unit where he would received an operation to repair his leg.
A large bar with pins was inserted from femur to ankle to keep his leg stretched straight. He is also kept sedated to help with pain and he is on a breathing machine due to smoke inhalation. Tyler's situation is dangerous because of the serious threat of infection. They say that Tyler will be in the burn unit at least 30 days.

Tyler is married to Tonya. They were high school sweethearts and now have 4 children. They have three girls and one boy born just this spring, Trevor. (Please pray for Trevor as well he has a breathing problem and just spent a couple of days in Cooks this last week.)

Trey underwent surgery for his broken arm this morning. Trey has many more surgeries ahead due to his facial injuries including breaking almost every bone in his face. Thank God, Ronda,
Trey's wife, is able to be by his side much of the time. Trey and Ronda have 3 little girls as well.

We tell this story for those of you who don't know the Thompson family or what happened yesterday. We want your prayers and we want you to know more about these wonderful people that we love.

We also report this story for those of you who already know this family and want to know more or just want to know how to help. This will function as a hub to help inform everyone of any changes or needs. We simply want to create a centralized information point to help
communicate prayer needs, keep friends and family informed, and to organized any type of help or aid we can muster. We hope to keep this updated according to every bit of news we hear. Bookmark this page and please, pray!

The number of posted comments has slowed the past few days as many have either relaxed a little as good news comes in, or because many of us don't know what else to say. But our prayers have not lessened. We know that the entire family will need to be lifted up daily for the next several weeks. Lord, continue to guide the doctors and nurses. Give them wisdom and skillful hands. Protect Tyler and Trey from the effects of allergic reactions. Father, protect Tyler from any harmful effects fever has as it attacks and destroys the infection and does its job to help heal his body. Strengthen Tonya, Rhonda, Cindy, Larry, Todd, Kelly, and the rest of the family as they wait in Lubbock. Father, give them the ability to rest at night. Give them peace of mind. Protect little Trevor and heal his body so that he can breathe easily and grow. Give the family peace about his safety. Send your angels to surround him every minute. And Father, send your Comforter to those first responders who are dealing with traumatic stress after seeing their friends in such distress. Continue to bless Keith and help him to use this experience as a powerful witness. We thank you for answered prayers and miracles. In Jesus Name.
Love you all,
Karen

We continue to pray for healing for both Tyler and Trey and peace, strength, and encouragement for the rest of the family and those who are doing all they can to help out during this time. May God grant all of you peaceful sleep tonight resulting in renewed energy and stamina in the morning. Praise God for His answer to His people's fasting and prayer today with Tyler's lowered temp and Trey's improvement! We keep a close watch on the web site for future updates.

Acts 5:16 "Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed."
Even after Jesus had been cruxified and rose again, and was ascended into heaven, we see the very same work that Jesus performed still taking place through the hands of His disciples, and with the very same intensity - all being healed. And why not? Hebrews 13:8 tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever! We claim healing for Trey & Tyler now in Jesus name.

Hi Thompson Family,

I am thrilled to learn that Trey is making great progress but will continue to keep Trey, Tyler, and the rest of the family in my prayers. I am so sorry for this tragedy, but I also know that God will never challenge you with something you cannot handle. It is comforting to know that in addition to His love you also have amazing friends to support you at this time, which is apparent from the many posts on this website.

Taylor, Syd, and Cheney: You are such brave and beautiful girls. I miss you all and cannot wait to see your pretty faces soon! Please give your mommy and daddy hugs and kisses for me!

With so much love,
Christina (or "Coshy" to Ronda)

As I read this blog again tonight, like every night before since the accident I can't help but be amazed at the number of hits this blog has gotten and the comments that are being left. As I sit here, 15 more hits have been made. The count is at 38,816. That is the equivalent of every person counted on that "Munday City Limits" sign checking this page 24.5 times... in 12 days mind you. It's moments like this that make me proud to be from my small Texas town, when we all band together for each other in love, faith, and support. Good Luck in the weeks ahead to all involved!

Dear Thompsons, I think I have finally figured out how to leave a message! It was so good to see you Wednesday when I was in Lubbock. I know the days are getting longer and you are getting worn out, so we are praying that God will give you extra strength to get you through. We are so happy to see the pictures of Trey. He didn't look that good when we first saw him! You all have always been so special to us, and we love you! Remember, "Life is hard by the yard, but it's a cinch by the inch". We pray that each day will bring good news, and that Tyler's days will be as painless as possible. We love you, Scotty and Peggy

-Cindy and Larry, I'm keeping up with you through the information given here. Know we haven't stopped praying and will continue. I well remember the physical and emotional weariness experienced when tending to loved ones in the hospital. Take care of yourselves. Rest every time your bodies and minds will let you. God does see the other side of this suffering and I pray He will comfort you with a glimpse into that future. We love you.

We continue to check the post daily (if not more often!) and also continue to lift ALL of you up in prayer! Although there are alot of good, Godly people in Mississippi, reading all these posts makes me miss Texas and that "small town" closeness!!! Sometimes we don't realize just what we have until times like this...It's priceless! We're believing for a speedy, supernatural recovery that will astound the medical community!!!

Larry and Cindy and families,
My prayers are with you all in this time of healing. God was with those boys. He does miraculous things and heals our wounds so that we can go on to spread his word. He must have something really special planned for those boys to do. I know that prayer works wonders as we still have our son who was run over by a tractor in October. Without all the prayers that were going up for him, we would have lost him. He is healing now and continues to fight infections. More surgeries last week.
I grew up and graduated from Munday. My mother was Mamie Brazell. My husband, Jay, knew both Larry and Gene when he came to Munday on Potato Harvest several years.
We will continue to lift up Trey and Tyler in our prayers everyday.
May the Lord be with you and help heal everyone, as everyone in the family suffers. Especially the children. Give them all the love and understanding that you can. They are suffering also.
Love,
Jay and Julia (Brazell) Rundell

James 5:14-15 we are told: "Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15) And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven." and in James 5:16 we are asked to "confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." and then told that "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." In Mark 11:23-25 Jesus further instructs to forgive when we pray "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, `Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24) Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

The whole Thompson family, Dakota's family, Keith's family are in my prayers daily. "By HIS stripes ye are healed!" We claim that now in the name of Jesus for these families. Thank You Jesus.

Tyler, as I read this blog today, I noticed that it has been read by over 7,500 times. Think how many people that computes to. We all need you to stay strong and come home to your family. I need you to come home and continue to be a good steward of the Burnett ranch. Those mesquite trees are lonely for you, not to speak of the people in the county. We are praying! So is the Jehovah Witness woman who just knocked on my door. It doesn't hurt to have all our bases covered. Kathy Bowen

Hey all you precious Thompsons! I love you and am praying for you! The Lord is powerful, He is strong and mighty, and there is nothing too difficult for HIM! And yet He is soooo kind, merciful, and tender-hearted toward us. His Word says He is kind and loving toward ALL He has made. Wow, I'm so thankful. And I'm so thankful for the way He is continually providing for each of you. It's ALWAYS been Him who is providing for us, right down to that past breath we just took. But in times like this when we realize that our independence is worthless, when we KNOW we have no power to fix our situation, we "get" the big picture that He is God and we are not. Then we can, like Psalm 46:10says, be still and know that He is God! Blessings, blessings, blessings to all you sweet folks!
Lots of love and prayers, Debbie Clower
