The Accident

Yesterday, brothers Trey and Tyler Thompson jumped in a pick-up with friend Keith Cypert, a Munday High School student, to check on a grass fire on one of their ranches. They left the church (they were gathered for a retirement celebration) and raced to the scene of the fire not knowing that they were about to become part of another scene.

As Tyler, Keith, and Trey approached an intersection just south of Rhineland, an eighteen wheeler with malfunctioning brakes crossed the highway. Unable to avoid a collision, Trey, Tyler, and Keith swerved but instead hit the fuel tank of the semi-truck. The impact pushed both vehicles off the road into a wheat field. Incredibly, Keith, the only one not injured, was able to free himself and rescue Trey from the wreckage. The driver of the semi then assisted Keith as he went back into the burning truck to save Tyler who was on fire.

Immediately after they were rescued, both the pick-up and the semi exploded setting the field on fire.

We know that Tyler, Trey, Keith, and the truck driver were spared by the gracious hand of God Almighty.

The local fire department and emergency services sped to the scene. The emergency
workers-all friends of the Thompson family-- arrived to administer medical aid and prepare them for transport by ambulance.

Meanwhile, Trey and Tyler's wives, parents(Cindy and Larry) and family members arrived on the scene. Both men were severely injured. But no one would know for sure the extent until they were taken to the hospital. Careflight was dispatched.

At Knox City they determined that Tyler had third degree burns over about 30% of his body, a badly broken leg, and other lacerations and injuries. Trey sustained a broken left arm, a fractured skull, and multiple injuries to his face. After being stabilized, both were air lifted to Lubbock's UMC.

Meanwhile, friends and family rallied together in prayer. Children were shuffled here and there and loving neighbors drove to Lubbock to support this dear family. No telling how many similar trips the Thompson's have made on the behalf of others in times like this...

The medical staff at UMC determined a plan of action for at least the near future. Tyler was admitted to the burn unit where he would received an operation to repair his leg.
A large bar with pins was inserted from femur to ankle to keep his leg stretched straight. He is also kept sedated to help with pain and he is on a breathing machine due to smoke inhalation. Tyler's situation is dangerous because of the serious threat of infection. They say that Tyler will be in the burn unit at least 30 days.

Tyler is married to Tonya. They were high school sweethearts and now have 4 children. They have three girls and one boy born just this spring, Trevor. (Please pray for Trevor as well he has a breathing problem and just spent a couple of days in Cooks this last week.)

Trey underwent surgery for his broken arm this morning. Trey has many more surgeries ahead due to his facial injuries including breaking almost every bone in his face. Thank God, Ronda,
Trey's wife, is able to be by his side much of the time. Trey and Ronda have 3 little girls as well.

We tell this story for those of you who don't know the Thompson family or what happened yesterday. We want your prayers and we want you to know more about these wonderful people that we love.

We also report this story for those of you who already know this family and want to know more or just want to know how to help. This will function as a hub to help inform everyone of any changes or needs. We simply want to create a centralized information point to help
communicate prayer needs, keep friends and family informed, and to organized any type of help or aid we can muster. We hope to keep this updated according to every bit of news we hear. Bookmark this page and please, pray!

Thank you Kacy for posting this. It's nice to have a place where we can get an update.

Thompson Family:
I'll continue to pray for all of you. I tried to teach Tyler's daughter in my classroom today. I know for a fact that I was a very ineffective teacher today. Each time I caught a glimpse of Madison (who was strong all day long), all I could do was PRAY..PRAY..and then PRAY some more. Know that you are surrounded by huge community that is lifting your family up in prayer.

Thank you Kace for doing such a great job on posting information for all of us.

To the Thompson families:
May God be with you all at this very trying time. We will pray, pray and pray some more for your wonderful family. My grandmother (Gran) was these boys babysitter for many years. It's hard to find a family as beautiful as the Thompson family.
Keep your head up and know that the Lord will see you through and remember "I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me".(Philippians 4:13)
God bless you all.

Merciful Lord of life, I lift you up my heart to you in my suffering and ask for Your comforting help. I know that You would withhold the thorns of this without them. So I throw myself on Your mercy, resigning myself to this suffering. Grant me the grace to bear it and to offer it in union with Your sufferings. No matter what suffering may come my way, let me trust in You. I love you guys, and are praying for you all. God Bless ya'll and the family.

Thompson Family,
I know the strength of God will walk y'all through this horrible storm. We will be praying for all of you. There is such a sweet spirit among all of you.
"Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again, "Boy, You'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of Truth says, "THIS IS FOR MY GLORY"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe
The Voice of Truth." Voice of Truth, Casting Crowns

To Tonya,
We may not see each other as often as we should, but know that your family loves You, Tyler, and the kids. If there's anything any of us can do, please let us know.

God Bless You All,

Thompson family,
We have been praying for you. Please let us know if there is ANYTHING we can do for any of you. No task is too large or too small - we want to help. You are a wonderful family and we are proud to call you all friends. Sunday we heard the helicopters (as our house is very close to the hospital) we say prayers each time we hear it land hoping that those on board will be safe and get the help they need. We did not know at the time who was on board but know they were being prayed for as they were being flown to Lubbock. We will continue to pray for God's strength to surrond your family, and for the full recovery of Trey and Tyler. Please know that we would be blessed to help in anyway.

I just want you to know that I and others will be praying for God's precious healing hand to be on these two young men and others involved in the accident. May he give guidance to the doctors and nurses as they administer the care that is needed. Finally, may the family be held in the umbrella of His love so as to continue to encourage Trey and Tyler.

Seeing this family is uplifting, because you can feel the love they share for each other, and that love will carry them through.

Wes Latham asked that all of us who work with him at Abilene Christian University pray for Trey and Tyler. I believe in the power of prayer. I know that our loving Father grieves with us when our loved ones are in distress. HE is the only one who can move Satan out of the way and give wisdom, strength and skill to the doctors who are tending to these men. I pray for the doctors, the wives and children of these men and for their extended family. HE answers prayer and knows what we need better than we know how to ask. HE will respond.

Heavenly Father, pour out your blessings on Tyler and Trey for healing, wellness, wholeness and restoration, as the needs be.

Bless all the medical equipment being used on their behalf. May the doctors and nurses yeild to the prompting of Your Holy Spirit, that they have knowledge and wisdom beyond their comprehension through the unction of the Holy Spirit, and let no decision or movement be made unless it is directed by you, Almighty God.

Lord, pour out your blessings on the Thompson family for strength and comfort from the Holy Spirit to perservere through this valley.

Lord, just as Aaron helped Moses hold the staff above his head to win the battle, we hold Tyler, Trey and The Thompson family up before You for complete victory.

Lord we speak your perfect peace for spiritual and emotional healing into Keith and the gentleman who was driving the truck, Lord remove any turmoil within their Spirits.

Lord place into each of us your calm assurance to remember that you are the One in control and you will produce blessings out of tragedy.

Grant it Lord, In the strong name of Jesus.

Larry,

I was with Trey and Keith in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. I was tending to Keith in the Ambulance and in the ER, until a nurse took over care of Keith. I walked over the Trey and laid hands on him and commanded his healing to begin, NOW.

I pray again that Trey will be healed NOW and in record time that will leave the doctors scratching their heads and say, "how did he recover so fast."

Do not give in to the people that will tell you this happened for a reason, that there must be someone's life you are supposed to touch in Lubbock. NO, NO, NO. Satan caused this and we will defeat him.

If you are supposed to touch someone's life in Lubbock it can be done at a cattle sale or at the Mall, not at the cause of injury to one of your children. I rebuke those people who are thinking that. God wants us healthy every minute of everyday.

My prayer: Satan I rebuke you and claim healing for Trey and Tyler, NOW, in the name of Jesus. I command bones to be mended NOW, burned tissue to be as a new born baby's skin, NOW, in the name of Jesus.

Mark 16:18 (NLT)says, ..."They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

Larry, I ask that you lay hands on Trey and Tyler everyday and command their healing that is there for the asking from Jesus Christ.

Cindy and Larry, from the summer of 1977 when three little blond/red headed boys climbed all over our combines and trucks, we have loved you all. It breaks our hearts now, to know two of these precious sons of yours are hurting.
From the moment we learned of the accident, there has been five Kansas families on their knees in petition to the Lord for healing for Trey and Tyler, and for comfort, strength and peace for you two, Tonya, Rhonda, Todd, Kelly and the children. If love for one another could heal, your sons would be restored to complete health by now, for so many people, just like us, love your family. We will continue to bring Trey and Tyler's needs before the throne of God.
We agree, in Jesus Name, in the prayer of Roland Marion.

Larry, Cindy and the boy's; as I have been lifting Trey and Tyler to the Lord several scriptures kept coming to mind so I am going to pass them on.
1."His mercies are new every morning." No matter what things look like this is a sure word and you can expect without doubt that the mercies of God are headed toward Trey and Tyler and the entire faimly each day.
2."When we have done all we know to do we stand" Larry and Cindy the only work that you and Cindy have been called to do in this is to trust God and watch our Hevenly Father move on your behalf.
3.He created the heavens and the earth by speaking all we see into existance. Certainly since our God can speak and set the foundations of the world in place he can speak to Trey's facial structure and provide all that is necessary to support the complete restoration of Trey's faceal features and all the other injuries the boy's have.

Thompson family,
In times like these, we sometimes are unsure how to pray or are too exhausted to pray. But we can pray just as Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:9-13:
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." This is my prayer for your family. His kingdom would come here on earth just as it is in heaven. In heaven there is no sickness, pain, or suffering. So I am calling heaven down to this earth, so that the glory of heaven would be demonstrated through your family. We pray for a miraculous healing and recovering for Trey and Tyler. We pray for every bone and tissue to be restored in Jesus name. We command swelling and pain to go in Jesus name. He cares about every detail, so we pray for even every minor detail to be resolved and taken care of. We pray that the doctors will have supernatural wisdom and knowledge and send forth Your healing in their hands. Amen! We will continue to pray.

To all the Thompson Clan,

You may remember Thelma Mullins, a colored lady, that worked for us for many years? One day I came home down in he dumps about something. Thelma asked what was the matter, and I told her something. She said "Just remember yhen every thing lookies the darkest, the Lord lets the light shine through" I believe it and I know that you do too. Just remember that GOD is still in charge, and Prayer does change things.

Oh Ronda, my heart goes out to you and the rest of the Thompson family. I will be praying for all of you. I just found out about the accident and how I wish there was something I could do for you. I am in Dallas with my Aunt who is in the ICU, she had two Anurisms in her brain begin to bleed this past Saturday night while having a conversation with me. We called an ambulance to take her to the hospital, which Careflighted her to Wichita Falls, which in turn Careflighted her to Dallas for the surgery. They were not able to remove the Anursims because of where they are located, but were able to stop all blood flow them. She is still in critical condition, but the Dr.s feel certain they will be able to take her off ventilation and heavy sedation as soon as this Saturday and they can then begin to treat the damage done by the bleed. I should be home in about two weeks, if I can help out with the girls or do anything else for you then, please let me know.

Much Love,
Becky

To all the Thompson family--
There are those people that flow through your life that just knowing them makes you a better person--your family has been that to me. I'm sure the first thing I noticed was the quality of cowboys you all are--but what I see now are the quality of people you are. You have touched so many lives. I know God has already worked his first miracle--Trey, Tyler and Keith are alive, and I have no doubt that the miracles will continue to flow to you, and through you. God has something very important in mind for your family--I'm sure of it. You are in my thoughts & prayers. Take strength knowing how much you are loved.

Precious Ones,
"As the mountains surround Jerusalem so the LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever." In reading Wilma's letter it sounds like you are experiencing that "surrounding" in a mighty way through those who love you. Praise His Holy Name!!! No family is so deserving as yours! We want you to know we love you all so much and our hearts hurt for you as you go through the pain whether physical torment or mental anguish. We are so thankful for the benefits of God's love being poured out over you! "The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." The word "near" was what I felt when I heard the bad news, "The LORD is near..." "He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark." As Moses said about the Israelites, I say this over Tyler and Trey, "Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that hovers over its young, He spread His wings and caught them, He carried them on His pinions." You are all so precious to us and especially to the LORD! Praise be to the One Who is near!
Love to you all,

To all the Thompsons: You taught me what Gods real love was through your actions. We have been through many journeys & ya'll have always helped us through them. Now it is our turn to help in your time of need. I'm glad to know that we have a caring, loving God who still works miracles today. 2 Cor. 12:9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, MY strength is made perfect in weakness." Right now, I'm praying for endurance & strength for each & everyone of you. Our love & prayers are with you every minute of each day.
Keith, know that NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING suprises God. EVERYTHING happens for a reason & a season. And though we may not understand at the time (or may never), trust HIM that HE is doing a good & complete work through all this. What the devil meant for harm, God will turn it into good. And God used you, Keith to spare trey & tylers life, you were in the right place at the right time. Trust Him, now more than ever, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge HIM & HE will direct your path. We love each one of you, know you are precious to us, Jay & LInda Hart

I leave this message with the following prayer:

Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever

Psalms 91 is so special to me and I know it is to you, too. Once, I heard someone ask, "Can you spot the most common word of the paslm 91?" Check it out.....

"Those who live in the shelter of the Most High WILL find rest."
"He WILL rescue you."
"He WILL shield you."
"He WILL shelter you."
"Evils WILL NOT touch you."
"They (angels) WILL hold you."
"The LORD says, I WILL rescue."
"I WILL protect."
"I WILL answer."
"I WILL be with them."
"I WILL rescue."
"I WILL satisfy."

Awesome promises from an Awesome God. He is faithful.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Larry. With God at our side everything will turn out. It is a miracle that they survived the crash and it is a matter of time for them to get well and be back home with their family. Take care and if you need anything just let me know.

dear friends,as I have looked over the messages sent with all the love and prayers there is not much else to say except your names are surely before the throne and God is in control. " all things work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose" and your family certainly fits in there. Be strong, hold on to Him, and when you can't hold on don't worry HE holds on to you. We love you Bud and Sequoyah

Larry, I want you to know that when mom was sick and I was coming to Munday every few days to see her, I was getting really down, depressed, and didn't really know what to do with the whole situation. Then out of the blue one day while I was there, you called on the phone and asked if I wanted to go riding around and hunt. That day helped me so much, you gave me a chance to vent, and just listened to what I had to say. Larry that helped me so much. It's that quality in you and your boys that is so special. That is why the hospital employees asked ya'll if you were presidents of the world. You all have touched so many lives and we are all thankfull of that. Cindy you did so much for my mom that I could never begin to list the many, many things that were "taken care of by Cindy" You two are special, and you have raised special children, and they have turned into extraordinary men! Trey and Tyler could not have been better prepared for this battle. When I come down, we'll have to go ride around and hunt again, cept this time I'm drivin! I love you all!!!

Frank and I just want you to know that we are praying for all of you daily. Munday is still a special place to us and our lives have been forever changed because of the wonderful people that live there like your family. We have been blessed to be able to call you our friends. We hold so many fond memories of our 10 years as Munday Moguls. It has been wonderful to hear about the progress Trey is making toward complete recovery. I pray Tyler will feel comfort, peace, and the release from the fear that has been holding him hostage. I remember so well the many times he was at our house helping Kevin conger up new and exciting escapades to keep me on my toes. All I had to do was look into their mischievous little eyes to tell something was up. But then they would flash those cute grins at me, or roll on the floor in a fit of laughter, and I would be sure I must have been mistaken. I have sent out prayer requests to family and friends of mine who have passed my requests on to even more people who are keeping the circle of prayer going nonstop. We will keep checking on all of you daily.
Love to all of you, Charlotte

Father, heal little Trevor's voice box right now. Stretch out your mighty hand to heal and make wrong things right, for Your glory. Help him to rest, eat and grow. In Jesus Name. And bring all the Thompson's home, soon.

From Texas Roadhouse San Angelo,

At work Friday afternoon I heard from a fellow co-worker who had spent many hours in the waiting room of the burn unit in Lubbock watching over injured friend. She was telling of his horrific accident and I started to tell her the story of Trey and Tyler. She stopped me mid-sentance and told me she had met the entire Thompson family and had been in the waiting room with them. She told me how great of a support system they were to even her family and friends in their time in need.
She mentioned Larry in particular and how great of a man he was. I tell this story to show how honestly large and complete this 'circle' has become. Even in their time of need the Thompsons are sharing their christian love and small town spirit with others.
My first personal experience with the Thompsons was at the Centennial and they will always be HUGE part of my memory of that entire summer. They are a very special family and I truely believe the power of the almighty one is behind them and will show himself to us through the miraculous recovery of these men.

We wish for hope and strength for the families, Keith, the truck driver and company, the surgeons, nurses, and all the others involved in the recovery and caretaking of the men, wifes, parents, and children.

We are continuing to pray for Tyler, Trey, and the whole Thompson family. We have such wonderful memories of our friendship when we lived in Munday and served as Pastor of FBC. Our boys were friends, as well. Please be encouraged to know believers all over the world are lifting you gently into the presence of Jesus, the Healer. He is faithful and mighty in healing.
Our love and prayers remain.

Dear Thompson Family,

Eventhough I don't know you well, the wonderful updates, the blog and the comments are so very descriptive of who you are!! It is heartwarming to read about your faith and your love for the Lord. We have been praying for you since first hearing of the tragic accident......Please know that Kevin and I care deeply and will continue to lift you ALL up in fervent prayer.

Fondly,

To everyone that continues to pray and post. I went to see Trey yesterday and he looks great. If any of you saw him in the first few days after the accident, as Ronda said, you couldn't have picked up out of a line up, but now, he looks like Trey again. The doctor originally told Ronda it would be at LEAST 2 weeks before Trey could go home, but by the grace of GOD he was discharged yesterday. Prayer is powerful! Keep up the good work!

Love,
Crystal K
